Classy club helps school
Motorbike trials fans were pleased after wheeling in more than £1000 for
an African school project.
Members of the Fleet-based Crowthorne Schoolpersons
Trials Club - some of whom are pictured here – helped raise the money from a sponsored ride on
private ground at Thursley. The Land belongs to Mrs Pin Wansborough who is
trying to raise enough money to build a school and home for orphans in
Zimbabwe.
A Total of 52 riders aged between five an 16 took part in the
event, watched over by 130 adults.
“We were really pleased with the amount raised” said Mr Allan Smith, clerk
of the course. “It means the charity has enough to buy the land and finish
the building as well as keep the children in food for the next year”
Club members ride motor-bikes of all sizes ranging from 50cc machines to
250cc bikes worth £3,775. The Club – known as The Crows – was started in
1976 by Mr Alan Birkett.
“We used the word Crowthorne because our first member, Geoff Caldwell,
came from their” said Mr Smith. “The funny thing is we no longer have any
members from Crowthorne”
The club – which put on a display for the Duchess of Gloucester at Wavell
School, North Camp, in 1990 – has about 100 members from throughtout the
southern counties including Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire.
